Microsoft announced its new Security Program for Nonprofits today. System set of tools that will help nonprofit organizations safeguard sensitive donor information and program data. The new program will also provide cyber security training and proactive monitoring programs.

The Security Program for Nonprofits offers courses and training opportunities for nonprofits to assess security risks and provide monitoring services. The program will also offer a service called AccountGuard for Nonprofits which provides threat detection and notification services when an organization is compromised.

In October 2020 donor relation management company Blackbaud revealed that it had suffered a massive data breach. In a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission said that cybercriminals have gained access to client information during a three-month-long data breach.

The Blackbaud data breach began on February 7, 2020, and it went undetected until May 14th of the same year. During that time cybercriminals accessed donor data including bank account information, Social Security numbers, usernames, and passwords.

Microsoft’s Azure Sentinel solution can offer protections across a hybrid environment.

Nonprofits can also sign up for a free security assessment.

“The news of a security incident can have long-lasting effects on a nonprofit organization, which can impact donor relations, fundraising, and in turn, mission output. Nonprofits and their board members should evaluate their security readiness and take the proper steps to strengthen against attacks,” says Microsoft on their website.

Microsoft will offer security compliance and identity solutions in the form of courses so administrators can strengthen and streamline security management. There will also be free Microsoft security virtual training day events to help mighty staff improve their technical skills.
