How to Remove a Credit or Debit Card from Google Pay

Google Pay is a secure digital wallet that allows users to pay for purchases online and in stores with smartphones, tablets, or watches. Google Pay can be used for online shopping when a credit or debit card, bank account, or other financial account is saved as a payment method. It also works as a payment method for Google services like YouTube videos and G-Suite products. You can also securely send and receive money using Google Pay.

Google Pay works with over 2,000 banks and credit unions in the United States

The Google Pay mobile app lets users securely pay in stores without having to carry around the physical credit cards. Paying in stores with the Google Pay app is a convenient way to increase your security and protect your money online and in-stores, as the card does not have to be present to pay. When you carry your credit cards in a bag or wallet, hackers can easily record your credit card numbers without ever seeing or touching the card. RFID readers can pick up the credit card or debit card numbers from less than a meter away.

Google Pay is a mobile app. However, it can also be used online in a web browser, including Google Chrome of course. It also works in Firefox and other web browsers as long as you are logged into your Google account.

How to Add Google Payments Through the Google Pay Web

  1. Go to https://pay.google.com/payments in a web browser
  2. Select Payment methods from the left-hand menu
  3. All saved Google payments will be listed. Next, to a card or bank account, click Edit or Remove. If you don’t see Edit, then remove the payment method and add it again
  4. To remove a payment method select Remove under the card or payment method you want to delete
  5. To edit a payment method, for example, the expiration date or security code has changed, select Edit
  6. Select Payment Method to enter credentials for a new card or account

You can also add PayPal or a bank account as a payment method.

Note: If you remove a card you used with Google Pay in stores, you also need to remove it from your phone or other mobile device. Follow the directions below.

How to Add Google Payments Through the Google Pay App

    1. Open Google Pay on an Android device
    2. Tap the Hamburger menu
    3. At the bottom of the Google Pay app screen, tap Payment
    4. To add a credit or debit card or other payment methods like PayPal, tap + Payment method at the bottom of the screen

When you add a payment method and want to use the new payment method to pay in stores, then you must enable another form of authentication for security. Google Pay can use a passcode or fingerprint biometric authentication. You can also securely send or request money from this screen. To send someone money you will have to allow Google Pay to access your contacts.

How Do I Cancel Google Pay?

You can use Google Pay to securely request or send someone money. Sometimes, you may need to cancel Google Pay payments sent to someone. Canceling can be accomplished on the mobile app on from a web browser.

Cancel Money Sent to Someone on Google Pay

    1. Open the Google Pay app or sign into Google Pay in a web browser
    2. At the top left select Activity
    3. Select the transaction you want to cancel
    4. Select Cancel payment

If you don’t see the option to cancel, then the recipient has already received the money and it’s too late to cancel the transaction. If the money was sent in error or you need a refund, then you will need to issue a request for money.

Remember Google Pay stored payment methods are not the same as stored payment methods in Google Chrome web browser. To secure your credit card data, delete them from Google Pay and Chrome.
