
Use the Steam App to Change or Recover Your Password
Most people reset passwords after being locked out of their accounts. However, with a rise in stolen personal data, you might want to intentionally change your password to something more secure simply to keep your data safe. Changing your Steam password could protect you from having your email, phone number, significant dates, and payment methods stolen.

- Open Up Steam Application or Log Into Your Account in Your Browser
If you have the Steam application installed on your computer, chances are that you are already logged into your account. If that’s the case, all you will need to do is open up the application and you will immediately be looking at your home page.
- Open Up Steam Settings
If you are using the Steam application, you can find settings by clicking ‘Steam’ in the upper right corner. A drop down menu will appear, listing different actions. Click ‘Settings.’
- Verify Your Account
When you open up settings, an account window will appear giving you multiple options for making changes to your account:
- Select “change password”
When you click ‘change password,’ you will be directed to a new window.

Choose how you want to change your Steam Password. Select to either send a verification code to the email address in your account or confirm your existing Steam password.
- Do you know your Steam Password?
If you remember your current password, click on ‘I no longer have access to this email account.’ Enter your current password. You will be able to change your password following verification of your current password.
- Forgot Your Steam Password?
If you can’t remember your current password, you should opt to have a verification link sent to your email account.
